Removal and Installation

Removal

  1. Remove the power steering pump belt.
    For additional information, refer to: Power Steering Pump Belt - 2.0L Duratorq-Di/TDDi (Puma) Diesel/2.0L Duratorq-TDCi (Puma) Diesel/2.2L Duratorq-TDCi (Puma) Diesel (303-05 Accessory Drive, Removal and Installation).

  1. Remove the power steering line support bracket retaining bolt.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Cap the power steering fluid supply hose to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Cap the power steering pump connection to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress.
    Disconnect the power steering fluid supply hose from the power steering pump.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not disconnect the power steering pump pressure adapter from the power steering pump.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Cap the power steering line to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Cap the power steering pump pressure adapter to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress.
    Disconnect the power steering line union from the power steering pump.
    1. Using a suitable wrench, hold the power steering pump pressure adapter.
    1. Disconnect the union.
    • Discard the Teflon seal.

  1. Remove the power steering pump support bracket.

  1. Remove the power steering pump.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:When installing a new power steering pump, remove the power steering pump pulley.
    Remove the power steering pump pulley.

  1. Remove and discard the coolant pump O-ring seal and grease from the coolant pump drive shaft.

Installation

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:When installing a new power steering pump, install the power steering pump pulley.
    Install the power steering pump pulley.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not remove the power steering pump pressure adapter from the power steering pump.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Cap the power steering pump pressure adapter to prevent dirt ingress.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:If installing a new power steering line to the power steering pump, do not remove the power steering line union.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:If installing the original power steering line to the power steering pump, remove the power steering line union.
    Remove the power steering line union from the power steering pump, if necessary.
    1. Using a suitable wrench, hold the power steering pump pressure adapter.
    1. Remove the union.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Care must be taken to prevent dirt ingress.
    Using the special tool, install a new Teflon seal onto the power steering pump to steering gear line union.
    1. Push the Teflon seal onto the special tool.
    1. Locate the special tool onto the union and install the Teflon seal.

  1. Install a new coolant pump O-ring seal to the coolant pump drive shaft.

  1. Coat the power steering pump drive shaft splines with grease.

  1. Install the power steering pump.

  1. Install the power steering pump support bracket.

  1. Connect the power steering line to the power steering pump.

  1. Connect the power steering fluid supply hose to the power steering pump.

  1. Install the power steering line support bracket retaining bolt.
  1. Install the power steering pump belt.

  1. Fill and bleed the power steering system. For additional information, refer to: (211-00 Steering System - General Information)

    Power Steering System Bleeding (General Procedures).
