Disassembly and Assembly

Disassembly

All vehicles

  1. Remove the steering wheel.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure the clockspring is not allowed to rotate. Secure in the central position with a piece of suitable tape.
    Remove the steering column multifunction switches and clockspring.
    • Using a thin bladed screwdriver, release the two clips (one each side).

  1. Remove the passive anti-theft system (PATS) transceiver.

  1. Remove the ignition switch.
    • Release the locking tangs.
Left-hand drive vehicles

  1. Remove the ignition lock cylinder.
    1. Insert and turn the ignition key to position I.
    1. Using a thin bladed screwdriver, depress the detent.
Right-hand drive vehicles

  1. Remove the ignition lock cylinder.
    1. Insert and turn the ignition key to position I.
    1. Using a thin bladed screwdriver, depress the detent.
Vehicles with stability assist

  1. Remove the steering wheel rotation sensor.

Assembly

Left-hand drive vehicles

  1. Install the ignition lock cylinder.
Right-hand drive vehicles

  1. Install the ignition lock cylinder.
All vehicles

  1. Install the ignition switch.

  1. Install the PATS transceiver.

  1. Install the steering column multifunction switches and clockspring.
Vehicles with stability assist

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Make sure that the steering wheel rotation sensor drive pins are not damaged loose or worn. Failure to follow this instruction, may result in personal injury.
    Check the steering wheel rotation sensor drive pins for damage.

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Do not use excessive force when installing the steering wheel rotation sensor. Sensors that are damaged must not be used. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
    WARNING:
    WARNING:Make sure that the steering wheel rotation sensor drive pin is correctly located in the sensor hub. Failure to follow this instruction, may result in personal injury.
    WARNING:
    WARNING:Make sure that there is no freeplay between the sensor hub and drive pin. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
    Make sure the steering wheel rotation drive pin to sensor hub is a sliding fit.

  1. Install the steering wheel rotation sensor.
    • Tighten the screws in the sequence shown.

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Make sure that the steering wheel rotation sensor is correctly fitted. Failure to follow this instruction, may result in personal injury.
    Check the vertical alignment of the steering wheel rotation sensor to the support bracket.
All vehicles
  1. Remove the tape from the clockspring.

  1. Install the steering wheel.
