General Equipment
2.5 mm drill
All vehicles
  1. Remove the air cleaner.
    1. Detach the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hoses.
    1. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor multiplug.
    1. Detach the clamp of the air cleaner outlet pipe to the engine.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Gearshift cables must not be kinked or bent.
    Detach the gearshift cables from the gearshift mechanism.
    1. Release selector cable.
    1. Detach the selector cable from the selector lever.
    1. Detach the gearshift cable from the gearshift mechanism.

        2. 1. Squeeze the locking pins together and detach the gearshift cable from the abutment.

  1. Ensure that 4th gear is engaged.
    1. Insert a 2.5 mm drill into the gearshift mechanism clamping sleeve and determine height X = 44 mm.
    1. Shift the transmission into 4th gear.

  1. Remove the gear lever gaiter from the center console.
    • Remove the gear lever insulation moulding.
Vehicles built up to 12/2004 inclusive
  1. Install the special tool.
Vehicles built from 01/2005
  1. Install the special tool.
All vehicles
  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Gearshift cables must not be kinked or bent.
    Attach the gearshift cables to the gearshift mechanism.
    1. Attach the selector cable to the selector lever.
    1. Lock the selector cable.
    1. Attach the gearshift cable to the gearshift mechanism.

        2. 1. Squeeze the locking pins together and attach the gearshift cable to the abutment.
Vehicles built up to 12/2004 inclusive
  1. Remove the special tool.
Vehicles built from 01/2005
  1. Remove the special tool.
All vehicles
  1. Attach the gear lever gaiter to the center console.
    • Install the gear lever insulation moulding.

  1. Install the air cleaner.
    1. Attach the clamp to the air cleaner outlet pipe to the engine.
    1. Attach the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hoses.
    1. Connect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor multiplug.
