Description and Operation General The 3.0L engine is equipped with a dual-mass flywheel. It has a single-stage spring rating and, in contrast to the CR diesel engine, does not have a friction control disc. However, the hub of the clutch plate still contains a damper, but this only serves to suppress transmission noises during engagement. The clutch is self-adjusting. The self-adjustment mechanism ensures that the force required to operate the clutch remains constant even after increased wear of the clutch disc. The clutch disc has been adapted to the increased performance of the 3.0L engine. It has an outer diameter of 240mm and an inner diameter of 170mm. The maximum torque that can be transmitted is approx. 350 Nm. The hydraulic actuation mechanism has been taken over from the base model. A vibration damper is also installed in the line. This damper has the task of keeping away unwanted vibrations from the clutch pedal that could otherwise be transmitted by the hydraulic system. Due to the increased component length of the dual-mass flywheel, the vehicle is now equipped with a shorter slave cylinder. This is the same version as the one used on models with a 4-cylinder engine. |
