Diagnosis and Testing

Refer to Wiring Diagrams Section 419-07, for schematic and connector information.

General Equipment Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS)

Inspection and Verification

NOTE:
NOTE:If a new navigation system display module is installed, allow the data from the navigation CD ROM to download (approximately 10 minutes) to the navigation display module before a destination must be inputted into the module and the vehicle must be driven until the navigation system is fully calibrated. Route guidance will commence at approximately 30% of the calibration process and at 100% of calibration the route guidance will be accurate.
  1. Verify the customer concern.
  1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.

Mechanical Electrical
  • Navigation system display module
  • Navigation system antenna
  • Navigation CD ROM
  • Fuse(s)
  • Wiring harness
  • Electrical connector(s)
  • Navigation system display module
  1. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  1. If the cause is not visually evident, refer to the Self-Diagnostic Mode.

Self-Diagnostic Mode

Switch the navigation system display module ON.

The navigation system constantly monitors it's inputs and outputs. If a concern is detected, it will be stored in the navigation system memory.

NOTE:
NOTE:It is necessary to carry out part of the system diagnosis outside of the workshop. Make sure there are no large buildings/obstructions or metal objects in the immediate vicinity.
NOTE:
NOTE:Make sure the navigation CD ROM is installed in the navigation system display module before entering the Self-Diagnostic Mode.

  1. PRESS the NAV button

  1. PRESS the S5 button to enter the GPS INFO menu.
NOTE:
NOTE:The minimum numbers of satellites received by the navigation system display module is four. If the satellites received is below the minimum requirement, the navigation system will not operate correctly. Move the vehicle to a position where the required amount of satellites are received.
  1. Check the amount a satellites received by the navigation system display module.

  1. PRESS ESC to return to the previous menu.

  1. With the navigation system display module in the navigation main menu. PRESS the S6 (EXTRA) button.
NOTE:
NOTE:ROTATE the right-hand rotary knob, to highlight the mode required and PRESS the right-hand rotary knob (ENTER) to select the mode.

  1. SELECT SENSOR TEST and PRESS the right-hand rotary knob. CHECK that all of the sensors shown on the screen are operating correctly.
NOTE:
NOTE:When checking the speed sensor it is necessary to drive the vehicle ten meters forwards above 4 km/h (2.5 mph) to make the value change.
NOTE:
NOTE:When checking the direction sensor. Select the reverse gear a drive the vehicle ten meters rearwards above 4 km/h (2,5 mph) to make the value change.
NOTE:
NOTE:When checking the navigation system display module internal gyroscope. Move the vehicle from side to side to make the value change. If the value does not change when the vehicle is being moved, INSTALL a new navigation system display module.
REFER to: Navigation System Display Module (419-07B Navigation System - Vehicles With: Travel Pilot EX, Removal and Installation).
NOTE:
NOTE:When checking the GPS antenna self-test function, disconnect the GPS antenna from the navigation system display module and TEST the system for normal operation. If the navigation system display module is operating correctly, the display will show a GPS error. If no message is displayed with the GPS antenna disconnected, INSTALL a new navigation system display module.
REFER to: Navigation System Display Module (419-07B Navigation System - Vehicles With: Travel Pilot EX, Removal and Installation).
NOTE:
NOTE:Connect the GPS antenna to the navigation system display module and REFER to the following list to diagnose the GPS antenna.
NOTE:
NOTE:The following list will not apply if the fault is induced by disconnecting the GPS antenna.
  • If the GPS antenna sensor test displays OPEN the GPS antenna is open circuit. REFER to the DTC Chart and DTC B1893 ACTION. Follow the instructions to diagnose the GPS antenna.
  • If the GPS antenna sensor test displays SHORT the GPS antenna is out of specification. REFER to WDS, check the DTCs. If DTC B2204 is retrieved, REFER to the DTC Chart to diagnose the GPS antenna.
  • If the GPS antenna sensor test displays OK the GPS antenna is OK.

  1. PRESS ESC to return to the previous menu.
  1. If the cause is not evident after the Self-Diagnostic Mode, connect WDS to the data link connector (DLC).
  1. NOTE:
NOTE:Do not select the NAV from the WDS menu as this is for vehicles with digital versatile disc (DVD) navigation system with touchscreen.
Select the ACU from the WDS menu.
  1. Retrieve the DTCs and refer to the DTC Index Chart.

Installation Of A New Navigation System Display Module

NOTE:
NOTE:If a new navigation system display module is installed, the NEW INSTALLATION menu must be followed.

Switch the navigation system display module ON.

NOTE:
NOTE:It is necessary to carry out part of the system diagnosis outside of the workshop. Make sure there are no large buildings/obstructions or metal objects in the immediate vicinity.
NOTE:
NOTE:Make sure the navigation CD ROM is installed in the navigation system display module before entering the NEW INSTALLATION menu.

  1. With the navigation system display module in the navigation main menu. PRESS the S6 (EXTRA) button.

  1. SELECT NEW INSTALLATION and PRESS the right-hand rotary knob (ENTER), to continue to the next screen.
  1. Follow the instructions on the display, until calibration is confirmed in the display.
