    The system comprises:

  • Control unit module

  • Audio unit with integrated CD player
  • Heater/air conditioning module

These components are combined in a unit in the centre console and can be replaced individually only after the complete unit has been removed.

Navigation system control unit

NOTE:
NOTE:It is very important that the navigation system control unit is never touched with any sharp objects, as this could damage the screen.
NOTE:
NOTE:If a navigation system control unit needs to be changed, this must be done with the aid of WDS and the option "Install Programmable Module".

The control unit forms the heart of the Ford DVD navigation system with touchscreen. As well as buttons for controlling the air conditioning, which are located to the left and right of the display, it also has rows of buttons for controlling the audio and navigation functions. These are located above and below the touchscreen.

A rotary/pushbutton is arranged in the centre of the unit. This is used to switch the system on and off and to guide the user through the menus on the touchscreen.

The surface of the touchscreen has an anti-reflection coating which eliminates nearly all reflections. In addition, it is also possible to adjust the contrast and the brightness of the display.

The brightness of the display is automatically adjusted to night-time mode when the vehicle lights are switched on.

Navigation unit

The navigation unit is installed as a separate component in the luggage compartment (on the left behind the wheel housing).

The navigation unit is installed in an additional console which is located in the luggage compartment. This console also contains a slot for a 6-CD changer and the first aid box.

NOTE:
NOTE:Follow the installation and removal instructions when installing a new navigation system DVD unit.
NOTE:
NOTE:If a navigation system DVD unit needs to be changed, this must be done with the aid of WDS and the option "Install Programmable Module".

The console needs to be removed in order to change the navigation DVD. It is attached to the luggage compartment trim with four bolts. Further information on this is contained in the chapter "Removal and Installation".

The data required for calculation of the route are read in from the DVD drive to the navigation computer, where they are processed. An integrated graphics processor processes the graphics data and sends them to the control unit module.

The power supply to the navigation computer is provided by the control unit module. The system is equipped with a memory function, i.e. the last route selected before the ignition is switched off is automatically reselected when the ignition is switched back on again.

Service Instructions

NOTE:
NOTE:Follow the instructions in the service literature when removing and installing components.

The 4-digit keycode is input via softkeys on the screen.

Unique vehicle identification numbers with up to 16 digits can be stored.

Special Tool Kit GV3301 should be used for removal of the unit.

TMC function

The Traffic Message Channel (TMC) is a specific application of the FM Radio Data System (RDS) used for broadcasting real-time traffic and weather information.

Data messages are received silently and decoded by a TMC equipped vehicle audio unit or navigation system, and delivered to the driver in a variety of ways.

The most common of these is a TMC enabled navigation system that can offer dynamic route guidance, which alerts the driver of a problem on the planned route and calculating an alternative route to avoid the incident.
