Seating - Seats Mondeo 2001 (10/2000-02/2007)
Description and Operation

Depending on vehicle specifications the driver seat can be equipped with two-way power seat height adjustment or with eight-way power seat adjustment. The eight-way power seat adjustment functions are controlled electrically.

Front Seat Active Head Restraint

Both front seats are equipped with active head restraints that move forwards in the event of a rear collision. The two supports of the head restraints inside the seat backrest are joined together with a very hard wearing fabric tape. In the event of a rear collision the back of the occupant presses against the fabric tape which then presses the upper part of the head restraint upwards and forwards by means of a pivot point. When the pressure of the occupant is released the head restraint returns to its initial position by a spring mechanism.

The vehicle can be specified with a video system. Visual display screens are fitted within the head restraint. An electrical wiring harness within the seat backrest carries the electrical signals from the control unit to the display screens. This wiring harness has a connector attached to the seat cushion base and at the top of the backrest for ease of servicing. If the display screen is inoperative, a new head restraint must be installed. For additional information, refer to Section  415-07 Video System.

Seat Position Sensor

The seat position sensor is located on the driver seat track. The seat position sensor determines the position of the driver seat. For additional information, refer to Section  501-20A Safety Belt System / 501-20B Supplemental Restraint System.

Occupant Classification Sensor

NOTE:
NOTE:The occupant classification sensor is an integral part of the passenger seat cushion and cannot be serviced separately.

The occupant classification sensor detects, by integrated pressure sensors, the presence of a passenger or object on the seat cushion. For additional information, refer to Section  501-20A Safety Belt System / 501-20B Supplemental Restraint System.
