Removal and Installation

Removal
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Pull out and hold the exterior front door handle.
    Remove the exterior front door handle access hole grommet and loosen the exterior front door handle retaining screw.

  1. Remove the exterior front door handle.
    1. Slide the exterior front door handle to release.
    1. Pull the exterior front door handle to remove.
  1. Remove the front door trim panel. For additional information, refer to Section  501-05 Interior Trim and Ornamentation.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not touch the adhesive surface as re-bonding will be impaired.
    Detach the door water shield from the front door panel.

  1. Detach the front door latch remote control from the door panel.

  1. Disconnect the front door lock actuator electrical connector.

  1. Loosen the exterior front door handle reinforcement plate retaining screw.

  1. Detach the exterior front door handle reinforcement plate.
    1. Slide the exterior front door handle reinforcement plate toward the front of the door panel.
    1. Dislocate the exterior front door handle reinforcement plate locking tangs from the door panel.

  1. Remove the front door latch.

  1. Remove the front door latch security shield retaining screws (driver side shown).

  1. Remove the front door latch security shield retaining screw and remove the front door latch security shield (driver side shown).

  1. Remove the driver side door lock cylinder connecting rod.
    1. Rotate the clip counterclockwise to release the connecting rod.
    1. Pull the connecting rod up.

  1. Remove the exterior front door handle reinforcement plate connecting rod.
    • Rotate the connecting rod 90 degrees.

  1. Remove the exterior front door handle adjustment clip from the door handle reinforcement plate.
    • Discard the clip.

  1. Remove the front door latch remote control cable from the front door latch.
    1. Detach the front door latch remote control outer cable.
    1. Rotate the front door latch remote control cable clockwise.
    1. Remove the front door latch.

Installation
  1. Install the front door latch remote control cable onto the front door latch.
    1. Attach the front door latch remote control cable to the front door latch.
    1. Rotate the front door latch remote control cable counter clockwise.
    1. Attach the front door latch remote control outer cable.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new exterior front door handle adjustment clip.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not lock the adjustment clip into place at this stage.
    Install the exterior front door handle adjustment clip and connecting rod.

  1. Install the exterior front door handle reinforcement plate connecting rod.

  1. Install the driver side door lock cylinder connecting rod.
    1. Install the connecting rod.
    1. Rotate the clip to lock the connecting rod in position.

  1. Install the front door latch security shield.

  1. Install the front door latch security shield retaining screws.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not tighten the front door latch retaining screws at this stage.
    Install the front door latch.

  1. Attach the front door latch remote control to the door panel.

  1. Connect the front door lock actuator electrical connector.

  1. Attach the exterior front door handle reinforcement plate.
    1. Locate the exterior front door handle reinforcement plate locking tangs onto the door panel.
    1. Slide the exterior front door handle reinforcement plate into position.

  1. Install the exterior front door handle.
    1. Locate the exterior front door handle into the front door panel.
    1. Slide the exterior front door handle forward to install it onto the door handle reinforcement plate.

  1. Tighten the exterior front door handle retaining screw.

  1. Install the exterior front door handle retaining screw.

  1. Press the exterior front door handle adjustment clip to set the latch position.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Two audible clicks should be heard when the door latch lever is closed completely.
    Close the front door latch lever in the jaws of the door latch.
  1. Lock and unlock the front door latch using the rocker lever on the front door latch remote control handle.

  1. Open the front door latch using the exterior front door handle. The door latch should open at approximately 75% of handle full travel (22mm). The exterior front door handle should have between 5-6 mm of travel after the front door latch has released.
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:If further adjustment of the door latch is required, a new door latch connecting rod adjustment clip must be installed.
    If the door latch does not open correctly remove the door latch and reset the exterior front door handle adjustment clip.

  1. Tighten the front door latch retaining screws.
  1. Attach the door water shield.
  1. Install the front door trim panel. For additional information, refer to Section  501-05 Interior Trim and Ornamentation.
