Description and Operation

Interior mirror

The interior rear view mirror is provided as a manual dimming or an electrically operated automatic dimming type.

Control of the automatic, electrically operated dimming mechanism takes place solely through the control integrated in the interior rear view mirror. Manual operation is not possible.

For interior rear view mirrors with an automatic electrical dimming mechanism, light sensors are mounted on the front and rear sides. The sensors control the automatic dimming mechanism to reduce glare from the headlights of following vehicles. The forward facing light sensor monitors the ambient light level at the front of the vehicle; the rearward facing light sensor monitors the light level coming from the rear of the vehicle. When light from the rear of the vehicle exceeds the ambient light level from the front of the vehicle, the automatic dimming circuit darkens the interior mirror surface.

Automatic dimming is inhibited when reverse gear is selected to provide the driver with maximum vision.

The light sensors and control form part of the interior rear view mirror and cannot be individually exchanged.

Exterior mirror(s)

Control of exterior mirror functions is via the respective door module. Adjustment of the exterior mirrors takes place using the exterior mirror operating switch unit in the driver door. The middle switch switches between left and right mirror or to the OFF setting in the central position.

The adjustment unit contains 2 electric motor for exterior mirror adjustment in the horizontal (inclination) or vertical (turning) planes.

Exterior mirrors with an electrical/automatic folding function are equipped with an electric motor on the hinge of the respective exterior mirror mounting. The electrical folding in function is operated via an additional switch in the exterior mirror operating switch unit.

If reverse gear is selected with the ignition switched on, then the particular activated exterior mirror (right/left exterior mirror switch) is inclined downwards until the preset inclination angle is reached. This ensures the driver has an optimum view of the rear wheel and the curb.

Heating elements are glued between mirror glass and mirror glass mounting for exterior mirror heating.
