FORD 1983 MUSTANG

Water entry into the cowl side/hinge pillar area from around the upper door hinge may contaminate the courtesy lamp switch contacts. This
contamination/corrosion can result in an inoperative dome lamp.
If the corrosion is not present, perform normal diagnostic procedures for locating the cause for the dome lamp's failure to illuminate and perform services
(i.e., replace fuse or bulb, service pinched wiring, or replace failed courtesy lamp switch).
NOTE:
Do not install the jumper wire (service pigtail), part number E3ZZ-13B767-A for a service that was not the direct result of
contamination/corrosion to the courtesy lamp switch contacts.
1.
Procure the following:
^
(1) E3ZZ-13B767-A - Courtesy lamp wiring harness (service pigtail)
^
(1) D3TZ-1 3713-A -Courtesy lamp switch
^
D81L-17018-A - Wire butt connector crimp tool
^
Wire cutters/stripper
2.
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3.
Remove the appropriate left and/or right hand cowl side trim panel to gain access to the wiring in the cowl side that powers the courtesy lamp
switch. (Refer to the 1983 Mustang/Capri Car Shop Manual, Section 45-03, Page 17, for trim panel removal.)
4.
Remove the failed door switch from the hinge pillar. Pull the failed switch and corroded connector out from the hole in the hinge pillar and cut off
the switch and connector. Discard.
