Seat Back - (Passenger Front) Movement When Braking

SEAT - PASSENGER FRONT - SEAT BACK MOVEMENT WHEN BRAKING
FORD 1983-86 MUSTANG, THUNDERBIRD; 1984-85 TEMPO
LINCOLN-MERCURY 1983-86 CAPRI, COUGAR; 1984-85 TOPAZ, MARK VII
Front seat back movement while braking is due to the use of an inertia seat back latch which allows forward movement of the seat back before lock-up.
This condition can be corrected by replacing the inertia latch with a new toggle spring latch.
1.
Obtain the appropriate toggle spring latch and upper and lower covers. Refer to the Parts Required List.
2.
Remove the seat and track assembly from the vehicle. Refer to Section 41-01 of the appropriate Car Shop Manual.
3.
Remove the lower latch cover from the seat assembly and save the attaching screws.
4.
Remove the seat back from the seat assembly. Save the attaching screws. Refer to Section 41-30 of the appropriate Car Shop Manual.
