In these cases, the following service should be performed. Refer to Figure 24.

Remove the shift lever extension from the transmission stub shaft as outlined in the appropriate 1985-86 Car Shop Manual, Powertrain, Volume D.

Replace with a new shift lever extension assembly, part number E6ZZ-7210-A Mustang/Capri, or E6SZ-7210-A Thunderbird/Cougar, and new
bolts, part number N803948-S100.
