Throttle Body: Service and Repair

1982 Mark VI, 1983 Lincoln/Mark VI, Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis, Continental; 1984-85 Continental & Mark VII; 1984-87 Cougar & Thunderbird;

    Rich or lean conditions during acceleration or other driving conditions can be caused by water, dirt or other foreign material in the fuel
charging assembly.
Removal

1.

Remove air cleaner, then release pressure from fuel system at diagnostic valve on fuel charging assembly using tool T80L-9974-A or equivalent.

2.

Disconnect throttle cable and transmission throttle valve lever.

3.

Disconnect fuel, vacuum and electrical connections.

4.

Remove fuel charging assembly retaining nuts, then remove fuel charging assembly.

5.

Remove mounting gasket spacer (if used) and lower gasket from intake manifold.

Installation

1.

Clean gasket mounting surfaces on spacer and fuel charging assembly.

2.

Place spacer between two new gaskets and place spacer and gaskets on intake manifold.

3.

Position fuel charging assembly on spacer and gasket, then install retaining nuts and torque to 120 inch lbs. To avoid distortion, tighten nuts
evenly and in a criss-cross pattern.

4.

Reconnect fuel line, throttle cable, vacuum lines and electrical connections.

5.

Start engine and check for leaks. Adjust engine idle speed if necessary.
