Air Filter Element: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect wire harness from the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor.
2. Unfasten two latches on engine tray to MAF sensor and separate.
3. Position MAF sensor out of the way.
4. Remove air cleaner element from engine tray.
INSPECTION
Visually inspect the air filter element, air cleaner cover and body for signs of dust or dirt leaking through holes in the filter media or past the seals.
Place a light behind the filter and look through the filter at the light. Even the smallest hole is cause for replacement. Also check the element for
deformed seals or for charred or brittle spots that could fail under engine operation and cause a hole. Discoloration is not cause for replacement.
INSTALLATION
1. Wipe all inside surfaces of the air cleaner body and cover, and install the filter element.
2. Align tab on MAF with slot on engine tray and fasten the two latches.
3. Connect wire harness to the MAF sensor and IAT sensor.
