Mustang V8-302 5.0L COBRA (1995)
Suspension Spring ( Coil / Leaf ): Service and Repair
Front
1. Raise and support vehicle, allowing front suspension lower arms to hang free, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
2. Remove brake caliper and wire it out of way.
3. Use tie rod end remover TOOL-3290-D, or equivalent, to disconnect front wheel spindle connecting rod or end assembly from front wheel spindle.
4. Disconnect stabilizer bar link from lower control arm.
5. Remove steering gear retaining bolts if necessary, then position gear so suspension arm bolt may be removed.
6. Using a suitable coil spring compressor, install compression rod into lower arm spring pocket hole, through coil spring and into upper plate, the
install lower plate, lower ball nut, thrust washer and bear, and forcing nut onto compression rod.
7. Tighten forcing nut on compressor tool until drag is felt, then remove suspension arm-to-crossmember nuts and bolts. Compressor tool may have
to be adjusted for easy bolt removal.
8. Loosen compression rod forcing nut until tension is relieved, then remove forcing nut.
9. Remove compression rod and coil spring.
10. Reverse procedure to install, noting following:
a. Ensure lower spring end is positioned between two holes in lower control arm spring pocket.
b. Tighten stabilizer bar end links to 11-16 ft lb, and steering gear to No. 2 crossmember to 90-99 ft lb.
c. Tighten tie rod to steering spindle to 35-47 ft lb.
d. Tighten lower control arm bolts to 141-191 ft lb with suspension at normal ride height.
