Brake Pad: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
NOTE: All brake components are unique, so do not interchange components.
1. Remove approximately 1/2 of brake fluid from master cylinder reservoir.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Remove wheel assemblies.
CAUTION: Due to very close tolerances between wheel and brake components, use caution not to damage disc brake shields or bleeder screws.
4. Remove clip and washer from caliper locating pin, then remove pin.
5. Lift caliper with pads from anchor frame, support caliper aside in a manner not to damage brake fluid lines and hoses.
6. Mark inner and outer friction pads for later reference, then remove pads.
7. Inspect caliper piston and caliper pin boots for damage, replace boots as necessary.
8. Inspect rotor for wear and runout. Minor glazing of surfaces can be removed by hand sanding with a medium grit sandpaper.
INSTALLATION
NOTE: Each brake component and friction pad is unique, ensure proper location of each pad by comparing with removed components.
1. Clean all residue from sliding and contact surfaces of brake components.
2. Remove protective paper from adhesive insulator material on friction pads. Use caution not to contaminate adhesive surface.
3. Install friction pads into caliper, ensuring correct pad is fully seated into proper position of caliper.
4. Use a suitable C-clamp to retract pistons into caliper. Ensure sufficient clearance exists to allow pads to fit over rotor.
5. Place caliper into position on anchor frame, then install locating pin, washer and clip.
6. Install wheel assemblies.
CAUTION: Due to very close tolerances between wheel and brake components, use caution not to damage brake shields or bleeder screws.
7. Lower vehicle, then pump brake pedal until a firm pedal is achieved. Inspect and adjust brake fluid level as needed.
