Mustang Cobra V8-281 4.6L DOHC VIN V MFI (1997)

Piston must be at top dead center (TDC) of cylinder being serviced.

If the valve has been damaged, it will be necessary to remove the cylinder head for service.
1. Remove air pressure from spark plug adapter. Inspect the valve stem for damage. Rotate the valve and check the valve stem tip for eccentric
movement during rotation. Move the valve up and down through normal travel in the valve guide and check the stem for binds.
2. If the condition of the valve is satisfactory, apply engine oil to the valve stem and hold the valve closed. Apply the air pressure within the cylinder.
3. Install new valve stem seal using Valve Stem Seal Replacer T91P-6571-A.
4. Position valve spring and valve spring retainer over valve stem seal.
5. Compress exhaust valve spring using Valve Spring Compressor T93P-6565-A and install valve spring retainer key.
6. Compress primary intake valve spring using Valve Spring Compressor T93P-6565-A and install valve spring retainer key.
7. Compress secondary intake valve springs using Valve Spring Compressor T93P-6565-A and install valve spring retainer key.
8. Remove Valve Spring Compressor T93P-6565-A.
9. Turn off air supply and remove adapter from spark plug hole.
10. Install spark plug.
11. Repeat Steps 2 through 9 until all necessary valve stem seals, valve spring retainers, valve springs and valve spring retainer keys are installed.
12. Install rocker arms and valve covers.
13. Start engine and check for leaks.
