Clutch Pedal Assembly: Description and Operation

With the clutch pedal in the upmost position, the clutch pedal quadrant adjuster pawl is free of the clutch pedal adjuster quadrant. The quadrant
position is governed by the position of the clutch release fingers, with the clutch pedal adjuster quadrant being free to rotate independently of
the clutch pedal.

The adjuster load spring force maintains contact between the clutch release hub and bearing and the fingers. As the clutch disc facing wears,
the fingers are gradually moved away from the flywheel. This movement is translated to the clutch pedal adjuster quadrant, adjusting the
quadrant position relative to the clutch pedal when the clutch pedal quadrant adjuster pawl is free of the clutch pedal adjuster quadrant.

In the normal running position, the clutch pedal quadrant adjuster pawl is engaged with the clutch pedal adjuster quadrant, locking it to the
clutch pedal.

For the rest of the clutch pedal travel, the system works as a conventional system; the clutch pedal motion is transmitted to the release fingers.

The clutch pedal adjuster quadrant remains locked to the clutch pedal during clutch pedal movement.

Since the clutch release hub and bearing in this system is constant-running, transmission neutral rollover noise can be detected as such only by
disengaging the clutch release hub and bearing from the clutch release fingers.

This is best accomplished by disconnecting the clutch release lever cable from the clutch release lever and moving the clutch release lever
away from the clutch release lever cable.
NOTE: Lift clutch pedal to the upmost position to release the clutch pedal quadrant adjuster pawl from the clutch pedal adjuster quadrant
when connecting or disconnecting the clutch release lever cable.
If neutral noise is evident under this condition, it is coming from the transmission.

Noise associated with the clutch release hub and bearing clutch system will be evident during all or some portion of clutch pedal travel.

The clutch is a belleville spring-type clutch pressure plate and a multi-stage dampered clutch disc using a self-centering, constant-running
clutch release hub and bearing.
