Mustang Cobra V8-281 4.6L DOHC VIN V MFI (1997)
1. Apply petroleum jelly to groove in reverse idler gear support bracket. Install reverse idler gear wave spring into bracket groove.
2. Align flats on reverse idler gear shaft with flats in reverse idler gear support bracket. Install reverse idler near shaft onto bracket.
3. Install reverse idler bearing and gear onto reverse idler gear shaft as shown.
4. Place reverse idler assembly into extension housing. Using Torx 40 bit install three idler bracket retaining bolts and tighten to 19-30 Nm (14-22 ft.
lbs.).
NOTE: Snug all retaining bolts first, then tighten to specification.
