Antenna: Testing and Inspection

If AM reception is extremely poor and FM reception "spits" or appears to have trouble holding stations, make sure that the antenna and antenna
connectors are properly mated. If the antenna connectors are properly mated but the reception is still poor, replace the antenna cable.

If only FM reception is poor, it is unlikely the antenna is at fault. Remove the radio chassis for service.

NOTE:  Many customers do not understand the limitations of FM reception. Refer the customer to the Owner Guide for information about the
limitations of FM radio performance.

NOTE:  If mast and cap are coated black they must be removed prior to test.

With antenna installed on vehicle and cable unplugged from radio, perform the following resistance tests using 73 Digital Multimeter 105-R0051 or
equivalent at test points 1, 2 and 3 as shown. Probes must contact antenna at points specified by arrowheads.

If tests are satisfactory, the antenna is in good condition.

If any reading is unsatisfactory, replace the complete antenna and cable assembly.
