Brake Proportioning/Combination Valve: Description and Operation
Operation
The brake pressure control valve:
-
contains a proportioning valve and a shuttle valve in an aluminum body.
-
is located below the brake master cylinder mounted to the LH shock tower.
Operation is as follows:
-
The brake pressure control valve regulates hydraulic pressure in the rear brake system.
-
When brake pedal is applied, the full rear brake fluid pressure passes through the proportioning valve to the rear brake system until the valve's split
point is reached.
-
Above its split point, the proportioning valve begins to reduce the hydraulic pressure to the rear brakes.
-
The reduced pressure creates a balanced braking condition between the front and rear wheels to minimize rear wheel skidding during hard braking.
