Hydraulic Brake Booster: Adjustments

NOTE:  The power steering fluid level in the power steering pump reservoir will rise and fall as the accumulator is charged and discharged. Fill to the
MAX line when the accumulator is discharged.

1. Deplete fluid in hydro-boost accumulator by depressing the brake pedal ten times with engine off.
2. Using Vacuum Pump 416-DOO1 or equivalent, extract air from power steering fluid by applying 81-98 kPa (24-29 inch-Hg) vacuum to power

steering pump reservoir for three minutes.

3. Loosen bleeder screw located on top of booster housing between dash panel and accumulator. Using Vacuum Pump 416-DOO1 or equivalent,

extract air from booster cavity, tighten bleeder screw, disconnect vacuum.

4. Add MERCON Multi-Purpose (ATF) Transmission Fluid XT-2-QDX or equivalent meeting Ford specification MERCON to the power steering

pump reservoir to bring level to MAX line.

5. With engine off, disconnect vacuum and turn steering wheel lock-to-lock twice, return to center position.

NOTE:  Vehicle may be raised on hoist to reduce steering wheel turning effort.

6. Using Vacuum Pump 416-DOO1 or equivalent, extract air from power steering fluid by applying 81-98 kPa (24-29 inch-Hg) vacuum to power

steering pump reservoir.

7. Start engine and turn steering wheel lock-to-lock.
8. Deplete fluid in hydro-boost accumulator by depressing brake pedal ten times with the engine off.
9. Install Vacuum Pump 416-DOO1 or equivalent to bleeder screw located on top of booster housing between dash panel and accumulator. Use

Vacuum Pump to generate 81-98 kPa (24-29 inch-Hg.) vacuum. Loosen bleeder screw, extract air from booster cavity. Tighten bleeder screw,
disconnect vacuum.

10. Start engine, turn the steering wheel lock-to-lock, check the fluid level in the power steering pump reservoir and install cap over bleed screw.
