Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair
NOTE: A one-piece crankshaft rear oil seal is used for replacement on all engines. If replacement is necessary, this type of crankshaft rear oil seal
MUST BE used. The complete crankshaft rear oil seal can be replaced without removing the crankshaft.

REMOVAL
1. Remove transmission from vehicle.
2. Remove flywheel.
3. Remove crankshaft rear oil seal retainer using Rear Crankshaft Seal Remover 303-519 (T95P-6701-EH) and Slide Hammer 100-001
(T50T-100-A).
CAUTION: Use care to avoid damaging retainer when removing seal. A damaged retainer may cause engine oil leakage.
4. If required remove crankshaft rear oil seal retainer.
INSTALLATION
1. Clean and inspect crankshaft rear oil seal retainer and retainer-to-cylinder block mating surfaces.
NOTE: Remove all traces of dirt, oil or previously applied sealant. Clean all sealing surfaces with Metal Surface Cleaner F4AZ-19A536-RA or
equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M5B392-A. Sealing surfaces must be clean and dry before applying sealant.
2. Apply a 3.0 mm (0.120 inch) continuous bead of Sealant 509 F3AZ-19554-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSK-M2G348-A9 to
cylinder block as shown.
NOTE: Crankshaft rear oil seal retainer must be installed and bolts tightened to specification within five minutes of sealer application.
Rear Oil Seal Retainer Tightening Sequence
3. Install crankshaft rear oil seal retainer and tighten bolts in sequence shown to 8-12 Nm (71-106 in. lbs.).
4. Install new crankshaft rear oil seal using Rear Crankshaft Seal Replacer 303-516 (T95P-6701-BH) and Rear Crankshaft Adapter 303-518
