Flow of Diagnosis
Inspection and Verification
1. Verify the customer's original concern.
2. Inspect to determine if one of the following electrical concerns apply:
VISUAL INSPECTION CHART
Electrical

Check electrical connections for obvious damage, opens or shorts.
3. Inspect the pins on the Data Link Connector (DLC) for loose, bent, deformed, corroded or broken pins. If pin is damaged, repair or replace pin,
verify communication with New Generation STAR Tester 418-F048 (007-00500) or equivalent.
4. If the concern(s) remains after the inspection, continue with See: Scan Tool Testing and Procedures

Diagnostic Trouble Code Tests and Associated Procedures
Before proceeding to the Symptom Chart:

Review equipment level of vehicle.
^
Make note of module and systems with which vehicle is not equipped.
^
Before performing a pinpoint test, make sure DTC being diagnosed is referencing a module or system with which the vehicle is equipped.
^
New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester may produce a network DTC for no communication if the vehicle is not equipped with the suspect module
or system.
^
New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester will interpret a not equipped module as a communication failure.
^
If a DTC is retrieved for a not equipped module or system, disregard this DTC.
^
If a not equipped DTC is the only DTC retrieved, the communication system self test should be considered passed.
Pinpoint Test Notes
CAUTION:
^
Be careful when probing the fuse junction panel, power distribution box or any connectors. Damage will result to the connector receptacle if the
probe or terminal being used it too large.
^
Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result.
