Liquid Vapor Separator: Description and Operation
With Enhanced Evaporative Emissions

The vapor control valve is mounted on a bracket on the top of the fuel tank.

The vapor control valve is in series between the evaporative emission valve and the evaporative emissions canister (EVAP canister).

The vapor control valve and the evaporative emission valve are part of a vapor valve assembly, and must be serviced as an assembly.

A hose connects the vapor control valve to the fuel filler pipe sensing tube.

The vapor control valve detects fuel tank filler cap removal by sensing a small pressure difference between the tank and the top of the fuel tank
filler pipe, when the cap is removed.

When the fuel tank filler cap is removed, the vapor control valve closes the flow path form the evaporative emission valve to the evaporative
emissions canister during refueling in order to prevent overfilling the fuel tank.

When the fuel tank filler cap is reinstalled after refueling the vapor control valve reopens, to allow normal evaporative emission control.
