Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair
Removal and Installation
REMOVAL
1. To remove the power steering fluid from the power steering pump reservoir, disconnect the power steering return hose at the pump connection and
drain the fluid into a container.
2. Remove the routing bracket attaching screw and the power steering pressure hose from the power steering pump outlet and drain the fluid into a
container.
3. Disconnect the drive belt from the power steering pump pulley, remove four retaining bolts and remove the power steering pump and power
steering pump pulley as an assembly.
4. Remove power steering pump pulley from power steering pump assembly.
INSTALLATION
Prior to power steering pump installation, remove the shipping tube nut from housing.
1. Install power steering pump pulley to power steering pump under CII Pump, Installation.
2. Place the power steering pump on the mounting bosses of engine block and install the bolts at the side of the power steering pump. Tighten to
20-30 Nm (15-22 ft. lbs.).
3. Install drive belt.
4. Install the power steering pressure hose to the power steering pump fitting. Tighten the tube nut with a tube nut wrench rather than with an
open-end wrench. Tighten to 57-73 Nm (42-53 ft. lbs.). Install routing bracket attaching screw to pump. Tighten to 9-12 Nm (6.6-8.9 ft. lbs.).
Swivel and end play of the power steering pressure hose tube end is normal and does not indicate a loose fitting.
5. Connect the power steering pump hose to the pump, and reposition the hose clamp to power steering pump inlet fitting.
6. Fill the power steering pump reservoir with MERCON Multi-Purpose (ATF) Transmission Fluid or equivalent.
Use start-up procedure after power steering pump service or steering gear service.
7. Check for leaks, and check the fluid level. Add MERCON Multi-Purpose (ATF) Transmission Fluid or equivalent if necessary.
