Power Steering Pump: Description and Operation
CAUTION: Always use the model codes on the tag when requesting a new power steering pump.
The power steering pump is serviced as an assembly. If any service is required, the entire power steering pump must be replaced.
The CIII power steering pump has the following features:
-
It is a belt-driven, vane-type pump.
-
It is mounted directly to the engine block by four retaining bolts.
-
The pump design incorporates a pump pressure fitting which allows the power steering pressure hose to swivel. This is normal and does not
indicate a loose fitting.
-
The power steering pump auxiliary reservoir for the power steering oil is mounted to the LH ignition coil bracket.
-
An identification tag attached to the power steering pump indicates the model number and bar code. Refer to these when service parts are required.
NOTE: The power steering pump is serviced as an assembly. If any service is required the entire power steering pump assembly must be replaced.
The power steering pump service identification tag identifies the power steering pump for service purposes. The identification tag is located on the
reservoir body.
