Differential Cover: Service and Repair
7.5 Inch Ring Gear
REMOVAL
1. Raise vehicle on a hoist. Position safety stands under the rear frame crossmember.
2. Drain lubricant from the rear axle housing by removing axle housing cover.
INSTALLATION
1. CAUTION: Make sure machined surfaces on both axle housing cover and rear axle housing are clean before installing new silicone sealant.
Inside of axle must be covered when cleaning machined surface to prevent axle contamination. Tighten axle housing cover bolt in a crosswise
pattern to prevent distortion of axle housing cover.
Apply a continuous bead of Silicone Rubber D6AZ-19562-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESB-M4G92-A or ESE-M4G195-A to the
axle housing cover.
2. Install axle housing cover. Tighten axle housing cover bolts to24-38 Nm (18-28 ft. lbs.).
3. For Traction-Lok equipped axles, add 4 ounces of Additive Friction Modifier C8AZ-1913546-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification
EST-M2C118-A. Add SAE 80W-90 Premium Rear Axle Lubricant XY-80W90-QL or -KL or equivalent meeting Ford specification
WSP-M2C197-A until it is 6-14 mm (1/4-9/16 inch) below bottom of filler hole. Install filler plug and tighten to 20-41 Nm (15-30 ft. lbs.).
