Axle Pivot Bushing: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
Special Tools
1. CAUTION: Rear suspension fasteners are important retaining parts because they could affect the performance of vital components and systems
and could result in major service expense. They must be replaced with one of the same part number or with an equivalent part if replacement
becomes necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified during
reassembly to maintain proper retention of this part.
NOTE: If one rear suspension arm and bushing requires replacement, also replace rear suspension arm and bushing on opposite side of vehicle.
NOTE: If replacing both rear suspension arm and bushings, remove and replace one control arm at a time to prevent rear axle housing from
rolling or slipping sideways. This might occur with both rear suspension arm and bushings removed and make replacement difficult.
Raise vehicle and support frame side rails with jackstands.
2. Support the rear axle housing.
3. Lower rear axle housing. Support the rear axle housing under differential pinion nose and under rear axle housing.
4. Unsnap parking brake rear cable and conduit from upper arm retainer.
5. Remove and discard the nut and bolt retaining rear suspension arm and bushing to rear axle housing. Disconnect the rear suspension arm and
bushing from rear axle housing.
6. Remove and discard nut and bolt that secures rear suspension arm and bushing to frame bracket. Remove the rear suspension arm and bushing.
If replacing rear suspension arm bushing, use Suspension Bushing Service Set 204-SO30 (T78P-5638-A) and Rear Axle Control Arm Bushing
Tool Set 204-S 127 (T86P-5638-AH) and the following procedure.
7. Place upper arm rear bushing remover tool in position, and pull out rear suspension arm bushing
