Axle Shaft: Service and Repair
8.8 Inch Ring Gear
REMOVAL
1. NOTE: Whenever replacing rear axle lubricant, use SAE-80W-90 Premium Rear Axle Lubricant XY-80W90-QL or equivalent meeting Ford
specification WSP-M2C197-A.
Raise vehicle to desired working height. Remove wheels. Remove rear disc brake calipers and rear disc brake rotors.
2. Clean all dirt from area of carrier cover with a wire brush or cloth.
3. Drain rear axle lubricant by removing axle housing cover.
Rear Axle Removal
4. Remove differential pinion shaft lock pin and differential pinion shaft.
5. CAUTION: Damage to rear brake anti-lock sensor may occur if rear brake anti-lock sensor is not removed before axle shaft.
Carefully remove rear brake anti-lock sensor before removing axle shaft.
