Flywheel Gear: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Remove flywheel.
2. Support flywheel on a flat and stable stand that will allow ring gear to separate from flywheel.
3. Use welding gloves and safety goggles.
4. Expand ring gear by evenly heating it with an acetylene torch.
5. Use a brass drift and hammer to drive the ring gear off flywheel. Tap ring gear evenly to prevent binding.
INSTALLATION
1. Expand the replacement ring gear by heating gear on a flat metal surface. Keep torch moving to prevent hot spots.
2. Use welding gloves or tongs and safety goggles to place ring gear on the flywheel.
3. Use a brass drift and hammer to drive ring gear onto flywheel. Tap gear evenly to prevent binding.
