Crankshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation
Crankshaft Position Sensor #2
Crankshaft Position Sensor #2
PURPOSE
The Crankshaft Position Sensor No.2
(CKP2) detects higher engine speeds when the timing belt does not accurately represent the crankshaft
position. The input signal is sent to the Powertrain Control Module
(PCM) and used for adjusting fuel injection timing, ignition timing, and
emission control.
OPERATION
The CKP2 signal is generated directly at the crankshaft belt pulley. When the six projections on the signal rotor pass the pickup, a pulse wave form
is sent to the PCM.
