Disposal Procedures for Probe V6-153 25L DOHC (1994) Air Bag System
Removal
WARNING: THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY MUST BE DEPLETED BEFORE ANY AIR BAG COMPONENT SERVICE IS
PERFORMED. TO DEPLETE THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE AND
WAIT ONE MINUTE.
NOTE: If the air bag did not deploy, the air bag may not have been needed. Complete diagnosis of the air bag system before replacing the air bag
module.
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Wait one minute while the backup power supply depletes.
3. Disconnect the two air bag diagnostic module connectors (under the LH instrument panel pad).
4. Open the glove compartment door, push in the sides of the glove compartment to release the stoppers and drop open the glove compartment.
5. Remove the glove compartment screws and remove the glove compartment.
6. Remove the screws from the glove compartment upper cover and remove the cover.
7. Disconnect the passenger side air bag module electrical connectors
8. Remove the four bolts securing the passenger side air bag module to the instrument panel.
9. Remove the passenger side air bag module by pushing on passenger side air bag module from inside the instrument panel. Do not handle the
passenger side air bag module by the edges of the deployment doors.
NOTE: Do not pull the wiring when handling the passenger side air bag module.
WARNING: WHEN CARRYING A LIVE AIR BAG, MAKE SURE THE BAG AND TRIM COVER ARE POINTED AWAY FROM
YOUR BODY. IN THE UNLIKELY EVENT OF AN ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT, THE BAG WILL THEN DEPLOY WITH
MINIMAL CHANCE OF INJURY.
