Probe V6-153 2.5L DOHC (1994)
Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Service and Repair
Front
1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheels.
2. On models equipped with anti-lock brakes, remove wheel speed sensor routing bracket.
3. Remove brake line U-clip from strut housing.
4. Remove two steering knuckle to strut mounting bolts.
5. Remove four upper strut retaining nuts.
6. Remove strut assembly from vehicle.
7. Secure strut assembly in MacPherson Strut Spring Compressor tool No. D85P-7178-A or equivalent.
8. Compress coil spring, then remove strut retaining nut.
9. Remove strut assembly from spring compressor.
10. Release spring compressor, then remove coil spring, upper rubber spring seat, upper spring seat, thrust bearing and strut mounting block.
11. Install strut mounting block, thrust bearing, upper spring seat, upper rubber spring seat and coil spring in the spring compressor.
NOTE: Face direction indicator on strut mounting block toward rear outboard position during reassembly.
12. Compress coil spring. Ensure lower coil of spring is seated on step of lower seat.
13. Position new strut in compressed coil spring.
14. Install strut retaining nut, then torque to 66-86 ft lb
15. Release spring compressor, then remove strut assembly.
16. Reverse Steps 1 through 6 to install strut assembly in vehicle.
17. Check front wheel alignment.
