DISASSEMBLY
1.
Remove caliper as previously outlined.
2.
Open the bleeder screw and drain the brake fluid from the caliper through the brake flex hose fitting. After draining the fluid, close the bleeder
screw.
3.
Remove the caliper guide bushing and dust boots, Fig. 15.
4.
Pry the retaining spring off the dust boot with a screwdriver, then remove piston.
5.
remove the dust boot and discard boot.
6.
Remove the piston seal from the caliper and discard. Use a plastic or wooden pick to remove seal. A metal tool can scratch or nick the seal
groove resulting in a possible seal leak.
7.
Remove the stopper snap ring.
8.
Remove the adjusting spindle, stopper and connecting link. Separate the adjuster spindle and the stopper.
9.
Remove the O-ring from the adjuster spindle, then discard O-ring.
10.
Remove the parking brake return spring, then the operating lever nut and lockwasher.
11.
Mark the relationship between the operating lever and the shaft, then remove the operating lever from the shaft.
12.
Remove the seal from the caliper housing.
13.
Remove the shaft from the caliper housing, then the needle bearings.
INSPECTION
The caliper bore, piston seal groove and piston must be inspected for cuts, deep scratches and pitting whenever the caliper is rebuilt. The piston and
piston bore may be lightly polished with crocus cloth, if deep scratches cannot be removed, the component must be replaced.
The seal groove in the caliper must be free of deep scratches that would prevent the seal from operating properly.
Inspect the upper guide pin and lower guide pin bushing for wear.
Inspect bushing dust boots for damage or poor sealing.
ASSEMBLY
1.
Lubricate the needle bearings with the orange grease included in the caliper rebuilding kit part No. FOJY-2221-A.
2.
Align the opening in the bearing with the bore in the caliper housing, then install the needle bearing.
3.
Install the operating shaft into the caliper housing.
4.
Install the operating lever. Align the marks made during removal.
5.
Install lockwasher nut.
6.
Install the connecting link into the operating shaft.
7.
Install O-ring onto the adjuster spindle, then position the stopper onto the adjuster spindle so that the pin will align with the caliper housing.
8.
Install the adjuster spindle in the caliper by aligning the pins of the adjuster spindle with the holes of the caliper.
