VIBRATION - BOOM SENSATION AT IDLE SPEED - 3.0L WITH 4EAT - LX MODELS BUILT BEFORE 10/30/90
FORD:
1990-91 PROBE
ISSUE:
A vibration, boom or beat sensation at curb idle may be felt and heard in the passenger compartment. These conditions are more noticeable
with the air conditioning on. They are caused by the stiff rubber used in the lower radiator mounts.
ACTION:
Install new softer rubber lower radiator mounts. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
1.
Remove the upper radiator hold down clamps.
2.
Lift the radiator up approximately four (4) inches. Some assistance may be required.
3.
From under the car, remove the two (2) lower radiator mounts.
4.
Install the new softer rubber lower radiator mounts (FO2Z-8125-D).
5.
Lower the radiator down onto the new mounts. Make sure the radiator is positioned properly.
6.
Install the upper radiator hold down clamps.
a.
Check the position of the clamp.
b.
If the clamp "tips" are straight up, rotate the clamp 900 to the right. This allows additional clearance between the hood and the clamp.
