1.
Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain cooling system.
2.
Drain crankcase, then remove crankshaft pulley and damper as outlined under CRANKSHAFT.
3.
Remove timing cover as outlined under TIMING COVER.
4.
Rotate crankshaft until No. 1 piston is at TDC compression stroke and timing marks are aligned as shown, Fig. 9.
5.
Remove camshaft sprocket attaching bolt and washer, then slide crankshaft sprocket, timing chain and camshaft sprocket from engine as an
assembly.
6.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Clean and inspect parts before installation.
b. Install replacement sprockets and timing chain as an assembly with timing marks aligned, Fig. 10.
c. Camshaft retaining bolt has a drilled oil passage for timing chain lubrication. If damaged, do not replace with standard bolt. Clean oil
passage with solvent.
