A/C Evaporator - Condensation Leak Onto the Carpet

AIR CONDITIONING - CONDENSATION LEAKS ONTO CARPET FROM THE AIR DISCHARGE CONNECTOR TO THE HEATER CASE
FORD:
1989-92 PROBE
ISSUE:
Condensation may leak from the A/C evaporator case onto the carpet below the air discharge connector to the heater case. This occurs
because excessive insulation around the evaporator core tends to act as a dam and retains water.
ACTION:
If condensation leaks occur, cut away a portion of the evaporator core insulation as described in the following service procedure.
1.
Remove the evaporator case from the vehicle. Refer to the 1992 Probe Service Manual, Section 12-03B, for service details.
2.
Remove the foam seals from the evaporator core inlet and outlet tubes by peeling them away from the evaporator case.
3.
Remove the seven (7) retainer clips holding the upper and lower evaporator case halves together.
4.
Separate the case halves and remove the evaporator core from the lower half of the evaporator case.

5.
Trim the evaporator core insulation from the lower case half as shown in Figure 1.
6.
Install the evaporator core into the lower evaporator case half.
7.
Assemble the evaporator case halves with the retainer clips.
8.
Install the foam seals on the evaporator core inlet and outlet tubes.
9.
Install the evaporator case in the vehicle. Refer to the 1992 Probe Service Manual, Section 12-03B, for installation details.
