Rear Suspension - Beam Axle Racing Puma 2000.5 (01/2000-12/2000)
Removal and Installation

Removal

  1. Remove the parking brake control cover trim.

  1. Lower the parking brake control lever and loosen the adjustment nut.
  1. Loosen the wheel nuts (both sides).
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
    For additional information, refer to: Lifting (100-02, Description and Operation).
  1. Remove the wheels.
  1. Detach the parking brake cables and conduit.
    For additional information, refer to: Parking Brake Cable (206-05 Parking Brake and Actuation, Removal and Installation).

  1. Detach the rear wheel ABS sensor electrical connector from the mounting bracket.
    1. Disconnect the rear wheel ABS sensor electrical connector.
    1. Detach the electrical connector from the mounting bracket.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Blank off the brake hoses when disconnected to prevent any dirt ingress.
    Disconnect the flexible brake hoses.
    1. Disconnect the brake hose unions.
    1. Remove the union retaining clip.
    • Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.

  1. Slacken the suspension unit lower mounting bolt.
  1. Support the suspension assembly.

  1. Remove the trailing arm mounting bracket bolt (both sides).

  1. Relocate adjacent components to lower the suspension assembly.
    1. Position the parking brake cables and conduit to the rear.
    1. Support the exhaust system.

  1. Remove the suspension unit lower mounting bolts.

  1. Lower and remove the suspension assembly.

Installation

  1. Locate the suspension assembly.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not fully tighten the lower mounting bolts.
    Install the suspension unit lower mounting bolts.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The final tightening of the rear suspension should be carried out when the vehicle weight is on the road wheels.
    Install the suspension trailing arm mounting bracket bolts.

  1. Tighten the suspension lower mounting bolt.

  1. Install the flexible brake hoses.

  1. Install the rear wheel ABS sensor electrical connector to the mounting bracket.
  1. Connect the parking brake cable and conduit.

  1. Install the rear wheels.
  1. Lower the vehicle.
  1. Adjust the parking brake cable.
    For additional information, refer to: Parking Brake Cable Adjustment (206-05, General Procedures).
