Removal and Installation

Ford approved diagnostic tool
WARNING:
WARNING:A hot engine and intake-air system can cause severe burns. Turn off the engine and wait until they are cool before removing the intake-air system.
WARNING:
WARNING:Fuel vapor is hazardous. It can easily ignite, causing serious injury and damage. Always keep sparks and flames away from fuel.
WARNING:
WARNING:Fuel line spills and leakage are dangerous. Fuel can ignite and cause serious injuries or death and damage, Fuel can also irritate skin and eyes.
  1. Remove the engine cover.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    For additional information, refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).

3. Remove the components in the order indicated in the following illustration(s) and table(s).

4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

NOTE:
NOTE:If the MAF sensor is replaced, always perform each adjustment procedure using the following steps.
  1. Using the diagnostic tool, perform the mass air flow (MAF) sensor data reset procedure.
  1. Using the diagnostic tool, perform the KOEO self-test procedure.
  1. Turn the engine switch to the off position.
  1. Wait for 5 s.
  1. Start the engine.
  1. Using the diagnostic tool, perform the KOER self-test procedure.
  1. Turn the engine switch to the off position.

Removal Details

Item 6 : Fresh-air duct

  1. Remove the front mud guard.
    For additional information, refer to: Fender (501-02 Front End Body Panels, Removal and Installation).

Item 20 : Intake manifold

  1. Set the fuel filter component slightly out of the way.
  1. Remove the EGR valve and EGR pipe.
  1. Remove the injection pipe.

  1. Remove the common rail.
