Fuel Tank and Lines - Fuel Filter Ranger 2006.5 (05/2006-)
Removal and Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    For additional information, refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).
  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Fuel vapor is hazardous. It can easily ignite, causing serious injury and damage. Always keep sparks and flames away from fuel.
    WARNING:
    WARNING:A person charged with static electricity could cause a fire or explosion, resulting in death or serious injury. Before performing work on the fuel system, discharge static electricity by touching the vehicle body.
    WARNING:
    WARNING:Fuel line spills and leaks are dangerous. Fuel can ignite and cause serious injuries or death and damage. Fuel can also irritate skin and eyes. To prevent this, always complete the following “Fuel Line Safety Procedures”.
    Avoid fuel line spills and leaks by completing the following procedures.
    1. Remove the fuel-filler cap and release the pressure in the fuel tank.
    1. When disconnecting a fuel line hose, wrap a rag around it to protect against fuel leakage.
    1. Plug the hose after removal.

3. Remove the components in the order indicated in the following illustration(s) and table(s).

4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:If fuel does not pass through the fuel filter, foreign material may have penetrated in the supply pump, and this may cause a malfunction resulting in damage to the fuel injection pump.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Continuously cranking the engine for over 30 s can damage the battery and the starter.
    Complete the fuel line air bleeding.
    • Continue cranking the engine for 30 s and stop for 5—10 s until the engine starts.
  1. Start the engine and verify that fuel does not leak from the fuel system.
  1. If fuel leaks, reassemble the fuel filter.

Installation Details

Item 5 : Sedimentor switch

  1. Apply a small amount of fuel to a new O-ring. Tighten the sedimentor switch enough to the fuel filter by hand.

Item 4 : Fuel filter

  1. Apply a small amount of fuel to the fuel filter O-ring. Tighten the fuel filter approx ¾ by hand after the O-ring contacts the priming pump.
