Removal and Installation Removal WARNING:Handling the seat belt (pre-tensioner seat belt) improperly can accidentally deploy the pre-tensioner seat belt, which may seriously injure you. Read the service warnings and cautions before handling the seat belt (pre-tensioner seat belt). For additional information, refer to: Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Health and Safety Precautions (100-00 General Information, Description and Operation). CAUTION:The ELR (emergency locking retractor) has a spring that will unwind if the retractor cover is removed. The spring cannot be rewound by hand. If this occurs, the ELR will not work properly. Therefore, do not disassemble the retractor. | -
Turn the engine switch to the LOCK position (vehicle with pre-tensioner seat belt). | | -
Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more (vehicle with pre-tensioner seat belt). For additional information, refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures). | | -
Remove the upper anchor bolt cover and bolt. | | -
Remove the B-pillar trim panel. For additional information, refer to: B-Pillar Trim Panel (501-05 Interior Trim and Ornamentation, Removal and Installation). | | -
NOTE:Connector removal note: Using a screwdriver, pry out the pre-tensioner seat belt connector stopper plate. Remove the components in the order indicated in the following illustration and table. To install, reverse the removal procedure. | | -
Turn the engine switch to the ON position (vehicle with pre-tensioner seat belt). | | -
Verify that the air bag system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s and goes out (vehicle with pre-tensioner seat belt). - If the air bag system warning light does not operate, refer to the on-board diagnostic system (air bag system) and perform inspection of the system.
