Replace Both Front Axle Automatic Rub Lock Cam Assemblies (Includes Inspect Above) . . . . . . . 0.7 Hr. Insert in Box "B" on Form 1864
Administrative Allowance . . . . . . . 0.1 Hr.
The 0.1 hour administrative allowance must be added before inserting the total labor time in the correct box A or B.
REPORTING OF COMPLETIONS:
Upon completion of the required service, return the second copy of the Form 1864 completely filled out and signed by authorized dealer personnel. Only
the Form 1864 will be accepted for reimbursement on this program.

Dear Bronco II or Ranger 4x4 Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Ford Motor Company has
determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1984 Bronco II and Ranger 4x4 vehicles built during January and
February, 1984, that are equipped with automatic locking hubs on the front axle. Our records indicate that you own the affected vehicle identified by the
serial number on the enclosed Form 1864.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DEFECT:
Some of these vehicles were built with improperly heat treated parts in the front axle automatic locking hubs. These parts could fracture when a vehicle
is operated in 4-wheel drive causing separation of a front wheel from the vehicle. The wheel separation could occur without warning to the driver and
may result in the loss of vehicle steering and braking control with the potential for a vehicle crash.
WARNING:
Do not drive your vehicle in 4-wheel drive until it has been inspected and necessary corrections have been made. If your vehicle has been operated in
4-wheel drive, be sure to follow the disengagement procedures in your vehicle owner guide to ensure that your hub locks are disengaged.
SERVICE TO BE PERFORMED:
Ford is recalling your vehicle to correct this condition. We wish to inspect and, if necessary, replace the cam assemblies in the front axle automatic
locking hubs - at no cost to you.
TO HAVE THIS SERVICE PERFORMED:

Contact your Ford dealer immediately for an appointment. The time needed to replace the cam assemblies, if required, is less than one hour.

Present the enclosed Form 1864 to your dealership when the recall service is done. After servicing your vehicle, the dealership will return the form
to us verifying that the required inspection or repair has been performed. If you lose the Form 1864, the dealership will still service your vehicle at
no charge to you.

Please tear out the postage prepaid card from the enclosed Form 1864, complete Section 1, and return it to us. This information is needed to update our
records.
