Connecting Rod Journal Diameter

1. Measure the crankshaft connecting rod journal diameters in at least two directions perpendicular to one another. Verify the journal is within

specification.

Connecting Rod Journal Taper

1. Measure the crankshaft connecting rod journal diameters in two directions perpendicular to one another at each end of the connecting rod journal.

The difference in the measurements from one end to the other is the taper. Verify the taper is within the wear limit.

Main Bearing Journal Clearance

NOTE:  Crankshaft main bearing journals must be within specification before checking journal clearance.

1. Remove the crankshaft main bearing caps and bearings.

2. Lay a piece of Plastigage off-center and fully across the face of each crankshaft main bearing surface.
3. Install and remove the crankshaft and the crankshaft main bearing caps. torque to specification.

NOTE:  Do not turn the crankshaft while doing this procedure.
