LIGHT TRUCK:
1998-99 RANGER
ISSUE
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may illuminate and Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) P0102 and/or P0103 may be stored in memory. There
may be other driveability concerns such as hesitation, and/or surge on acceleration under normal operating conditions. This may be caused by an
out-of-specification Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.
ACTION
Replace the MAF sensor. The revised MAF sensor is more robust and should reduce the possibility of the above concerns. Refer to the following Service
Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Verify that the vehicle exhibits at least one of the following conditions:

MIL on
^
Surge
^
Engine hesitation
2.
Follow normal diagnostics by running New Generation Star (NGS) Tester.
3.
If DTCs P0102 and/or P0103 are found, proceed to Step 4. If not, refer to the appropriate Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED)
Service Manual for further diagnostic procedures.
4.
Remove existing MAF sensor.
5.
Replace with revised MAF Sensor (F67Z-12B579-EA).
6.
Verify fix with NGS Tester. If MAF sensor codes are cleared and other codes are shown, perform normal diagnostic procedures to verify other
driveability concerns.
