Pressure Plate: Service and Repair

Special Tools

REMOVAL 

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect the clutch master cylinder push rod from the clutch pedal.
3. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
4. Remove the starter motor.
5. Use the Clutch Coupling Tool to disconnect the quick connector at the transmission.
6. Remove the transmission.

7. Remove the bolts and remove the clutch pressure plate and the clutch disc.

CAUTION:  Loosen the bolts evenly to prevent clutch pressure plate damage.

NOTE:  If the parts are to be reused, mark the clutch pressure plate and the flywheel.

INSTALLATION 

1. Do not use cleaners with a petroleum base. Do not immerse the clutch pressure plate in the solvent.

CAUTION:  To prevent damage do not force the adjusting ring. Additional pressure may be required on the diaphragm fingers if the adjusting
ring does not turn readily.

NOTE:

Clean the clutch pressure plate and flywheel with a commercial alcohol based solvent so surfaces are free from oil film.

The clutch pressure plate should always be adjusted before installation.
