Heated Oxygen Sensor: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
NOTE: If excessive force is needed to remove Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S), lubricate HO2S's with penetrating lubricant E8AZ-19A501-B or
equivalent prior to removal.
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect HO2S's from engine control sensor extension wiring.
3. Raise vehicle on hoist.
4. Remove HO2S from exhaust manifold, inlet pipe, or dual converter "Y" pipe, using oxygen sensor wrench.
INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse removal procedures. If required, apply a light coat of anti-seize compound specification ESE-M12A4-A or equivalent to
thread.
2. Tighten HO2S's to 36-46 Nm (26-34 ft lb).
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control
module relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the adaptive strategy.
