Vehicle Speed Sensor: Description and Operation
DESCRIPTION
The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is a small gear driven permanent magnet signal generator mounted on the transmission.
PURPOSE
The VSS generates an A/C signal that is proportional to the vehicle speed and sends it to the system components.
It is used by the powertrain control module to determine the vehicle speed and to control fuel injection, ignition timing, and shift and electronic
pressure control.
It also helps in controlling the apply and release of the torque converter clutch.
