This TSB is being republished in its entirety to remove reference to 1995-96 model year 2.3L engine.
ISSUE:
The "Check Engine" Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may illuminate with no drive concerns. Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1405 may be stored
in continuous memory. This may be caused by exhaust pulsations in the exhaust manifold side (upstream) Differential Pressure Feedback EGR (DPFE)
hose causing DPFE voltage to fluctuate below calibrated parameters, setting the DTC.
ACTION:
Replace the upstream DPFE hose with a new revised (longer) J-hook hose (F57Z-9P761-XA) to dampen fluctuations. Refer to the following Service
Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Perform the EEC-V Self Test, use Pinpoint Test for Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Systems in the 1995 Engine/Emissions Diagnosis Service
Manual. Check for DPFE upstream pressure hose oft, plugged, or poorly connected. Service as required.
2.
If Step 1 tests are OK, replace upstream DPFE hose with new design DPFE hose (F57Z-9P761-XA).
NOTE:
DO NOT MODIFY THE MOULDED REPLACEMENT HOSE.
Obtain an Authorized Modification Decal (FPS 8262 - orderable through DOES II, 25/pkg) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of
modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized
Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
