NOTE:
BEFORE DIAGNOSING A 4-WHEEL-DRIVE VEHICLE, MAKE SURE IT IS IN 2WD AND THE FRONT HUBS ARE UNLOCKED.

On smooth pavement, drive the vehicle at a constant speed and feel for the "float" condition:
a.
This is the narrow, neutral range where the driveline can be said to "float" because neither accel nor decel forces are being applied to the
driveline.
b.
It is important to accurately identify vehicle behavior in "float" mode because the diagnostic routine to be used will depend on
Noise/Vibration/Harshness (NVH) characteristics during float.
c.
It may be necessary to drive the vehicle several minutes before the sensation can be clearly identified.
